Who We Are & What We Believe

Stanton City Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America. We subscribe to the Westminster Standards along with the Nicene Creed, and see them as presenting an accurate and faithful summary of the Bible’s teaching.

Core Values: C.O.S.T.*

Covenantal Cross-Cultural Community:

We are a church who believes that the Bible tells one story of God’s covenant work: saving His People. From the beginning, this people group was meant to be a diverse community – which the first Adam failed to fulfill. But Christ, the better Adam, brings together His chosen people from all walks of life.  Therefore, Stanton City Pres desires to be a cross-cultural community reflecting who our neighbors are, in the neighborhood where we are providentially placed.

Orthodoxy, Orthopathy, and Orthopraxy:

We are a church who believes that the Triune God is the correct view of the God of the Bible. Our God has revealed to us His special Word that never changes. We also believe that proper theology ought to not be isolated but it leads to the other two: proper emotions and proper living. If we know the proper teachings of God (Orthodoxy) it impacts our emotions.  We often do not consider how much our emotions can stem from our theology.  If we believe the wonderful truths of God it leads us to emotions and passion that run deep (Orthopathy).  We also see how Orthodoxy naturally compels us to live out His Gospel message (Orthopraxy). Both on Sundays and every day; both in Word and in Deed. As believers in Christ, we desire our good works to stem from the good news.  Hence as worshipers we believe we are to love the LORD our God with all our mind, with all our soul, and with all our might.

Shalom in Stanton:

We desire for the Gospel to produce shalom in the city of Stanton. Shalom is more than simply peace: shalom is wholeness. As a community rooted in Christ, we desire for people to heal spiritually, mentally, physically, and financially. We know that until Christ returns, there will never be full peace on this earth. However, we desire to be people of shalom on this side of His kingdom. Before we can be an asset to the city, we must first understand the city. We strive to feel the pulse of Stanton, by not only serving our neighborhood but also dwelling in it. Stanton City Pres seeks to collaborate with diverse organizations, working towards the shared goal of seeing our city flourish.

Tell Thoughtfully:

We believe that we do not earn Grace; we respond to Grace. We believe that those who have received His Grace are transformed more and more into His likeness. Therefore, our good deeds are an expression of thankfulness for this gift of Grace.  Stanton City Pres desires to be a community who tells of this grace to others, in a tactful and discerning way. We desire to speak with humility and grace while sharing the Gospel Truth, knowing we are not the owners of the truth, but merely purveyors of it. Hence, we are a community who thankfully tell the good news with thoughtfulness.

*C.O.S.T. : Based on Luke 14:28
Our core values lead us to remember that the Gospel does not have a price we can pay. However, when Jesus speaks of “counting the cost,” this means we do not simply accept His grace. As followers of Christ, we can no longer live our worldly lives. His grace is free but following Christ is costly.
If we have not counted the cost, we will waver in our faith when the going gets tough. Stanton City Pres believes that as His People, we are willing to give up everything because our greatest treasure is Christ. In response to the Gospel, we renounce living for ourselves, and instead follow the Savior who gave His life for us. We are His at any cost.
